Cowen Group Announces New Hire in Telecommunications Research Group

Colby Synesael Named Senior Research Analyst
NEW YORK, March 16, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Cowen Group, Inc. (“Cowen”) (Nasdaq: COWN) today announced that Colby Synesaelhas joined the firm as a Senior Research Analyst in the telecommunications sector of Cowen’s research Department. Formerly at Kaufman Brothers, Mr. Synesael will be based in New York and will report to Barry Tarasoff.

Mr. Synesael joins Cowen and Company withover eight years of research experience in the telecommunications sector. Prior to his time at Kaufman Brothers, Mr. Synesael founded CAS Research, a financial consulting firm. He has also worked at Merriman Curhan Ford and Thomas Weisel, where he developed his alternative and specialty telecom background. Mr. Synesael received a B.S. from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
