Peter N. Reikes
Vice Chairman

Peter Reikes is a Vice Chairman of Cowen and Company and a senior member of Cowen’s health care investment banking practice. Mr. Reikes joined Cowen in 1999 to lead the firm’s health care investment banking practice, a role which he held until 2010, following 14 years at PaineWebber Incorporated. Throughout his 25-year career in investment banking, Mr. Reikes has managed a wide range of financings and merger and acquisition transactions for companies in the life sciences, medical technology, and health care services sectors. Mr. Reikes is a director of the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care Institute of Quality Improvement. He is also a former director of Ricerca Biosciences, Biocompatibles Ltd., and the limited partnership boards of Alkermes Inc., Cephalon, Inc., Gensia Pharmaceuticals Inc., Genzyme Corporation, and Repligen Corporation.

Mr. Reikes received an M.B.A. in finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles.

John B. “Jack” Kiernan

Mr. Kiernan joined Cowen and Company in September 2006 as a Managing Director in Health Care Investment Banking. Prior to Cowen, Mr. Kiernan was Senior Managing Director and Head of Health Care Investment Banking at Leerink Swann & Company. Prior to that, Mr. Kiernan had been Managing Director and Head of the U.S. Health Care Group at Citigroup. Previously, he held senior positions at Merrill Lynch and Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette.

Mr. Kiernan has over twenty years of investment banking experience advising health care companies on strategic and capital raising issues. Mr. Kiernan is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School.

Don Munoz
Managing Director

Don Munoz joined Cowen and Company in August 2009 to lead the firm’s medical technology investment banking franchise. He has over 16 years of investment banking experience and has executed more than 85 financing and merger & acquisition transactions for health care companies. Prior to joining Cowen, Mr. Munoz spent four years at Leerink Swann where he established and led its medical technology investment banking effort. Prior to Leerink, he spent ten years at Deutsche Bank and Alex. Brown & Sons in that firm’s health care investment banking group. He began his investment banking career at Kidder, Peabody & Co.

Mr. Munoz received an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Bill Reiland

Mr. Reiland joined Cowen and Company in December 2009 as a Managing Director responsible for alternative and debt financings. Mr. Reiland has over 24 years of experience in health care as an investment banker, research analyst, investor, and consultant and worked in the industry at Stanford University Hospital. Mr. Reiland joined Cowen from Leerink Swann, where he was a Managing Director, and Morgan Stanley, where he spent 15 years. While at Morgan Stanley, Mr. Reiland spent five years in investment banking and eight years on a variety of corporate bond, high yield and distressed trading desks. During that time, Mr. Reiland was a high yield research analyst and received recognition as the top-ranked Institutional Investor research analyst in health care for three years. Mr. Reiland also served as Morgan Stanley’s Global Head of High Yield Research for five years and Co-Head of Corporate Bond Research for two years. Mr. Reiland also spent two years in Morgan Stanley’s $3 billion dedicated internal private equity group, Moran Stanley Principal Investments.

Mr. Reiland received an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College (with distinction), where he was a Tuck Scholar, and a B.A. from Yale University.

Mark F. Secrest

Mr. Secrest is a Managing Director in Cowen and Company’s Health Care Investment Banking Group focusing on the medical technology and life science tools sectors. He is also the Chairman of Cowen’s Fairness Opinion Review Committee. He joined Cowen in April 1998 from UBS Securities where he spent three years in the Mergers & Acquisitions Department. Prior to joining UBS, Mr. Secrest spent more than five years at Kidder, Peabody & Co.

Mr. Secrest holds a B.A. from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from The Stern School of Business at New York University.

Jamie Streator

Mr. Streator is a Managing Director in Cowen and Company’s Health Care Investment Banking Group focusing on life sciences companies.

Prior to joining Cowen, Mr. Streator was Managing Director, Head of Health Care Investment Banking at Susquehanna Financial Group. Prior to Susquehanna, Mr. Streator was with Thomas Weisel Partners, where he founded the Health Care Investment Banking Group, and served as Partner and Co-Head of Health Care Investment Banking. Mr. Streator also served as a Managing Director and Co-Head of Health Care Investment Banking at Hambrecht & Quist (now JPMorgan).

Mr. Streator received his Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University in 1980 with a major in History and a Masters in Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1985 with a major in Finance.

D. Ryan Daws

Ryan Daws joined Cowen and Company’s mergers and acquisitions department from Cowen’s general corporate finance department in 2000. Prior to Cowen, he worked at Delphi Automotive Systems’ European headquarters in Paris.

Mr. Daws graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in finance and organizational management and received an M.B.A. in international business from the University of South Carolina MIBS program.

Neal Karnovsky

Neal Karnovsky is a Director in Cowen and Company’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Health Care Investment Banking Groups, joining in 2004. Mr. Karnovsky focuses on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance in the Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical, Medical Technology and Health Care Services sectors. Prior to joining Cowen, Mr. Karnovsky was an Analyst and an Associate in the Health Care Group of Wasserstein Perella.

Mr. Karnovsky earned a B.A. Cum Laude from Columbia University in 1999, where he double-majored in Roman History with Honors and Economics, and an M.B.A. Beta Gamma Sigma from Columbia Business School in 2003, where he concentrated in Finance & Economics and Management.

Neha Motwani joined Cowen in 1998, where she is a Director in Cowen’s Health Care Investment Banking Division, focused on executing public and private financings as well as financial advisory for Life Sciences and Medical Technology companies.
