Executive Officers

Stephen A. Lasota
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Lasota serves as Chief Financial Officer of Cowen Group. Mr. Lasota was appointed Chief Financial Officer in November 2009. Following the consummation of the Transactions, Mr. Lasota was the Chief Financial Officer of Ramius LLC and a Managing Director of the Company. Mr. Lasota began working at RCG in November 2004 as the Director of Tax and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in May 2007.

Prior to joining RCG, Mr. Lasota was a Senior Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Mr. Lasota has been working in the accounting industry for over twenty years and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Marran H. Ogilvie
Chief of Staff

Marran Ogilvie is a Partner Managing Director.

Ms. Ogilvie joined Ramius in 1994, was appointed as its General Counsel in 1997 and as its Chief Operating Officer in 2007. In November 2009, she was appointed Chief of Staff of Cowen Group. As Chief of Staff, she assists the Chairman and CEO of Cowen Group, and oversees the legal, compliance, and communications groups of the firm.

Ms. Ogilvie is NASD licensed as a Financial and Operations Principal, General Securities Principal, Municipal Securities Principal, Registered Options Principal, General Securities Representative, Commodity Futures Representative and Registered Equity Trader. In addition, she is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.

Ms. Ogilvie received a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma in 1990 and a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1995.

 

Jeffrey M. Solomon
Chief Strategy Officer and Chairman of the Investment Committee

Jeffrey Solomon is Chief Strategy Officer and Chairman of the Investment Committee of Cowen Group.

Mr. Solomon joined Ramius when it was founded in 1994 and has been responsible for the development, management and oversight of a number of the investment strategies currently employed by Ramius.

From 1991 to 1994, Mr. Solomon was at Republic New York Securities Corporation, the brokerage affiliate of Republic National Bank, now part of the HSBC Group, where he was the firm's Chief Administrative Officer. In 1993, Mr. Solomon supervised Republic's expansion into Europe by overseeing the creation of its U.K. affiliate and was responsible for initiating the firm’s initial foray into the Alternative Investment business through its Republic Asset Management affiliate. He was also a member of the Credit Committee of the firm's Board of Directors.

Prior to Republic National Bank, Mr. Solomon was in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Shearson Lehman Brothers. He was also part of the internal corporate finance team that worked closely with senior management in evaluating the Company's operations, capital usage and investment strategies, including the acquisition and disposition of corporate assets.

Currently, Mr. Solomon serves on the Treasury Committee on Capital Markets Regulation sub-advisory Committee on Securitized Debt Markets. He is also on the Board of Directors of Hale & Hearty Soups, a New York based restaurant chain and NuGo Nutrition, the manufacturer of NuGo Nutrition Bars.

Mr. Solomon graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 with a B.A. in Economics.

 

Christopher A. White
Chief Operating Officer

Mr. White serves as the Chief Operating Officer and as a member of the Operating Committee of Cowen Group. In November 2009, Mr. White served as the Chief Financial Officer of Cowen Group. Mr. White served as the Vice President of Cowen Holdings since its formation in February 2006 and was a member of the operating committee and Office of the Chief Executive.

Mr. White served as Chief of Staff of Cowen and Company and its predecessor entities from December 2005 and as Chief Administrative Officer of Cowen and Company and its predecessor entities from June 2006 to November 2009. Mr. White served as a member of SG Capital Partners, the Merchant Banking Division of Cowen and Company, from 2003 to December 2005. Prior to joining the Merchant Banking Division, Mr. White was in the Equity Capital Markets Group of Cowen and Company.

Prior to joining Cowen in 1999, Mr. White worked at Salomon Smith Barney in the Equity Capital Markets Group. In addition, Mr. White has seven years experience as a practicing securities and mergers and acquisitions lawyer. Mr. White serves as a Director of Coleman Properties, LLC.
